Dear Mr. and Mrs. President,
I think what has happened to the ethnic Chinese victims in Indonesia could no longer be ignored by people with even a slight touch of conscience. It was so unfortunate and sad that the world governments, which include that of the US, of Japan, of the PRC and of Taiwan, initially kept silent on this grave matter until they were forced to say something by the grass-rooted movement of the concerned internet participants. While the world governments named above kept silent on the atrocities in Indonesia, we tried our best to bring the plight of the ethnic Chinese in Indonesia to the concerned citizens of the world.
I understand that Indonesia is a strategic place in Asia. This is perhaps why the world governments mentioned above have been trying to stay on the 'right' side of Habibi. It is classical textbook of international political gaming at work, isn't it? But I want you, Mr. and Mrs. President, to understand that logical as it is, the theory that justifies ignoring inhumanity on the basis of political power balancing usually back-fires. Just look at what has happened in our past human history. Those nations that supported injustices with an eye on their own national interests usually got punished in ways totally unexpected and unforeseen.
God is watching all of you. God is watching the US too and its President. The United States of America would out-distance any government such as that of the PRC in spreading its influence in that strategic part of the region if she could take a righteous moral stand against what is obviously wrong.
Remember, Mr. and Mrs. President, God is watching all of us.
Regards,
Francis Y.F.Poon (HK)
